Darran Carrpenter, Cwmcarn Paragon RC wants you to know that th e off-road hill climb be was organising at Cwmcarn is cancelled due to lack of support. Just 9 riders one of whom was prepared to trafel from Bristol. What a shame, it was going to be a                                  good event.

Cancellation of Cardiff Byways 25 – 25th August 2007

The CTT South Wales District Chairman and the Byways Committee have supported my decision to cancel the above event. There are a number of mitigating reasons for this but principally I am not able to ensure the safe running of the event.

The decision was not taken lightly by me as I have been involved in and promoted Time Trials for over 30 years and have never cancelled an event before. This year’s promotion was probably ‘doomed’ from the moment it moved from last year’s date of the first Saturday in August to the Bank Holiday weekend.

The majority of my support comes from our club’s Audax riders; the new date for our 25 clashes with the week of the Paris-Brest-Paris ride and 75% of the helpers will be in France!

I have a family wedding that Fran and I will be attending so I would be unable to be present ‘on the day’ anyway and no deputy could be found.

The Byways took over the running of this event at short notice 2 years ago to avoid losing a good event on a super-fast course. The times achieved last year on the R25/3H show what a gem it is. Sadly the course is out of action until at least September.

Thus there will be no Byways 25 promotion for 2007: whether I will have recovered from my back injury to be able to get out and enjoy riding the bike again and be fit enough to promote in 2008 remains to be seen.

Yours in sport
